Greetings Family!
We are pleased to welcome you to our 2021 Nelson Family Mass Reunion that will be held September 3rd – September 6th in Memphis and Ripley/Henning TN.  This family friendly location offers plenty of fun and excitement for all ages.  Come join us for fun in the city and enjoy the many amenities and attractions.
Events are subject to change. All paid events require your name tag for entry


Family Meet & Greet
Friday September 3rd 5pm – 7pm. Check in at the reunion registration table to get your reunion packet, name tag and t-shirts. Meet with your family members, share stories, and show lots of love!! Light refreshments provided.

Southland Casino Night - $25
Friday September 3rd 7pm – 11pm. $15 in Free Play. Live entertainment from 9pm to 1 am at the Sports Bar & Grill (entertainers to be announced). Round trip bus transportation from the Crown Plaza Hotel to/from Southland Casino.

R&B Dance Party - $10
Friday September 3rd 7pm – 11pm. Staying in the hotel this evening? Dance the evening away with great music, fun, laughs and a good time for all ages! Free photo booth! Light refreshments provided! Adults need to be present with children 12 and under.



African American History Tour $59 Adults $48 Children 5-12
Saturday September 4th 1pm – 3pm
2 hour African American History Tour.

This is a bus tour where we will visit many exciting locations but not getting off the bus. The different sites that we will visit are available to visit during your free time.

Sites on the tour include:

  • Slave Haven: a site that documents the history of the Underground Railroad

  • Historic Mason Temple: where on April 3, 1968, a day before his assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous last speech; “I’ve been to the Mountaintop.”

  • The National Civil Rights Museum/Lorraine Motel: where we’ll trace the history of the Civil Rights Movement from its roots to the present

  • Beale Street: as we hear “the rest of the story” about one of America’s most iconic streets; also known as the Main Street of Black America, and officially named the “Home of the Blues:" by an act of Congress in 1977.

There is so much more to Memphis than Downtown!
We will visit other neighborhoods such as:

  • Uptown

  • Pinch District

  • South Memphis

  • Soulsville

  • The Edge

Last and most certainly not least, your visit would not be complete without giving you the opportunity to see additional historic landmarks like:

Saturday September 4th 7pm – 8pm. Celebrate the nominees and winners of the Legacy Awards. Go to Legacy Awards for more details.

Nelson’s Got Talent - Free
Saturday September 4th 8pm – 11pm. Talent Show and Karaoke. Show your talent, have fun and win prizes!! Sign-up information will be released at a later date, in the meantime, practice those songs and perfect your talent show acts!!


Worship & Reflection Service
Sunday September 5th 11am – noon. Join us for a time of reflection and to give thanks for our family.

Lunch Buffet
Sunday September 5th noon – 2pm. Immediately following worship service.

Choose Your Own Adventure
Sunday September 5th 2pm – 8pm. Free time to enjoy the City or Memphis


Lauderdale Labor Day Celebration
Monday September 6th 10am. The town of Ripley, in Lauderdale County, holds a free annual Labor Day celebration in Rice Memorial Park, with a parade, southern food favorites, games and carnival rides. This home-coming event is a family tradition. Bus transportation is available for $40 that includes transportation to the parade, the Alex Haley Museum visit and the Family Reunion Picnic.

Alex Haley Museum – $10
Monday September 6th 2pm.  Admission to the Alex Haley Museum exclusively for our family.

Family Reunion Farewell Picnic
Monday September 6th 2pm – 5pm. Enjoy lunch, games and family as we spend the last day together until next time!
